Frequently Asked Questions

Treading water for 24 hours straight, are you crazy?
This is the question I get the most often. Maybe a little bit I suppose? I've always liked difficult physical challenges, and I think this one will fit the bill. And it's for a great cause!

How did you train for this?
I'm an avid cyclist and spent a lot of time on the bike this summer (between 150-200 miles a week). I also did some practice sessions in the pool, the longest being about 8 hours.

Will you take any breaks?
I'm planning on a 3-5 minute 'nature break' about every 2 hours or so. Other than that, I will be treading water for the entire 24 hours.

What will you eat?
Nutrition was one of my concerns when I was planning. Since I can't really eat, I'll be relying primarily on a high carbohydrate drink mix made from cluster dextrin. As opposed to typical gels and performance drinks, cluster dextrin is digested gradually and steadily by the body, and is easy on the GI tract.

What will you wear?
I wanted to just wear jammers (swim suit), but since it's a competition pool it's kept fairly cool (about 79 degrees). During my practice runs I got pretty chilled after a couple hours, so I'll be wearing a short sleeve rash guard also.

Are visitors allowed?
Yes, and I would love the company! The pool is open until 7pm Sunday evening and reopens at 5:30am Monday morning. Please check in at the front desk and let them know you're there for the fundraiser. There is no entry fee.
